This species displays a pronounced lateral flattening, with two flagella emerging from a pore field near the apex. Notably, a prominent spine is visible at the cell apex in Prorocentrum micans. The two valves are marked by a series of pores and depressions. Small pores, arranged in distinct rows, extend from the cell margin toward the center. Additionally, larger pores can be found at the posterior end of the cell, and depressions or closed pores are visible at the valve margin. These cells are conspicuously pigmented, and a large V-shaped nucleus is situated in the posterior half of the cell.
