Description:
Body is oblong and compressed with scales covering the maxilla. The posterior margin of the preopercle is serrated and the lower lip is well developed. Depth of the posterior portion of the maxilla is less than the dermal eye opening. Teeth are villiform arranged in broad bands on the palatines and ectopterygoids. Palatines are turned inward anteriorly. The base of the second spine of the first dorsal fin is more robust than the other spines of the first dorsal fin. The head and upper sides of the trunk are darkly silver. Snout is semitranslucent. The anterior and posterior margins of the first and second dorsal fins, anal fin, and caudal fin are slightly blackish, while other parts appear gray. Pectoral fin membrane is gray with scattered melanophores.
