The sea gooseberry possesses a transparent, spherical, or slightly oval body with eight rows of ciliary plates that function in propulsion, creating the enchanting color reflections commonly linked with comb jellies.Despite its fragile and seemingly harmless appearance, the sea gooseberry is a formidable predator. It utilizes two tentacles to capture prey drifting in close proximity. Its diet encompasses eggs, larvae, small mollusks, arthropods, and various other organisms. Although the tentacles can be retracted into pockets within the body, the sea gooseberry is often observed rotating around its own center, swirling the tentacles around its body. Each tentacle is equipped with a lateral row of fine filaments coated with a sticky substance to prevent prey from escaping. This species displays hermaphroditic traits, possessing both male and female genitalia. Fertilization is facilitated by the release of eggs and sperm into the water.
