Description:
The lobe of the 2nd dorsal fin is falcate. The lateral line exhibits a moderately regular arch anteriorly with the junction of the curved and straight parts positioned below the 12th to 14th soft ray of the 2nd dorsal fin. The straight part of the lateral line typically has 20 to 37 weak scutes and a total of 32 to 42 elements. The fish appears silvery with a greenish hue above the head and body and reflective yellow-green tones below. There is a small black blotch on the upper edge of the opercle and in some large adults, the coloration may become very dark with the head and fins exhibiting a blackish shade.
