Description:
The fish has a round and strongly compressed body, and the profile of the forehead is somewhat angular. There are five pores on each side of the lower jaw, and the anal fin consists of three spines and 25–29 soft rays. In terms of coloration, adults exhibit a yellowish-silvery or dusky hue with a dark bar through the eye and another bar just behind the head. Occasionally, there are a few small, scattered black spots on the body. The median fins are yellowish with black margins posteriorly, while the pelvic fins are black. Juveniles have a dark, vermiculated bar through the eye, and the caudal fin is transparent except for the reddish-brown base.
