The fish has a terminal and oblique mouth, along with three pairs of small mental pores. Teeth are well-differentiated into large and small in both jaws. There are 12–16 gill rakers on the lower limb of the first gill arch. The scales comprise 12–17 rows above the lateral line to the origin of the dorsal fin and 14–22 rows below the lateral line to the origin of the anal fin. The swim bladder features tubular appendages on each side, dividing into a long, simple abdominal portion and a simple or branched cephalic portion entering the head. The caudal fin is pointed, and the body is greyish above with a silvery underside. The opercle has a bluish spot above it, and the paired fins are yellowish, while the median fins appear dusky, with the spinous dorsal fin being blackish.
