Description:
Body is elongated and compressed with a slightly compressed head. There is a low raised cutaneous ridge along the midline of the predorsal area.Jaws are of nearly equal length with a single row on the upper jaw and 3-4 rows on the lower jaw. The gill opening does not extend anteriorly to a vertical line through the preopercular margin. There are no elongated and filamentous spines on the dorsal fins. The pelvic fins are fused in the middle and a frenum is present. Caudal fin is lanceolate and longer than the head. Scales on the body are cycloid at the front and ctenoid at the rear. The head is naked with sensory canals and pores present. Both the head and body are of a pale grayish-brown color, featuring several large and small dusky blotches along the midlateral body. The distal margin of each scale on the nape and dorsum is dusky and there is a shadow-like dusky blotch beneath the eye.
