Description:
The body is of moderate depth and compressed. Space between the eyes is wider than the diameter of the eye. The pectoral fins have 13–14 rays, occasionally 15. Well-developed and large pelvic fins consist of 1 spine and 5 rays. Entire body is covered with small, deciduous scales. The caudal fin is forked and there are two lateral lines on the sides, both originating from above the upper angle of the gill opening. The coloration is uniformly dark brown with pale fins, except for the blackish 1st dorsal fin. The lining of the buccal and branchial cavities is black.
