Description:
Nemipterus randalli exhibits an ellipsoid body, slightly compressed, featuring a continuous dorsal fin with 10 spines and 9 soft rays, lacking incisions in its membrane. The anal fin is mildly pointed towards the rear, and the caudal fin, typically forked, may have a lengthy filament extending from the upper edge of its upper lobe, though the filament is often absent. The pectoral fin is elongated, reaching the anus, and the first ray of the pelvic fin extends to the origin of the anal fin. The mouth is terminal with conical teeth on both jaws and 5-6 canine-like teeth on the premaxilla and dentary. The body is covered in scales, extending to the upper surface of the head down to the midpoint of the eye, with three rows of scales on the preoperculum. The overall coloration is pinkish, darker on the back and fading to silvery-pink on the belly. Four pale yellow longitudinal stripes adorn the flanks, with the upper stripe starting at eye level and running to the caudal peduncle. Additionally, there are yellow spots on the cheek and operculum. These fish can reach a maximum length of 30 cm but are typically found in the range of 5–20 cm. The dorsal fin displays a pale bluish color with a red margin and yellow markings clustered towards the base, while the caudal fin also features a red margin.
