Description:
The body is deep and compressed, with a depth ranging from 1.8 to 2.6 times the standard length. Adults have a median horn-like projection anterior to the eyes, which does not extend in front of the mouth. This projection first develops as a bump on the forehead of young individuals of about 12 in length. Additionally, there are 2 bony plates on each side of the caudal peduncle.In terms of coloration, the fish is light olive to yellowish grey, with the peduncular spines and a small area around each bright blue. The edges of the lips are bluish, and the dorsal and anal fins have a blue margin with alternating narrow bands of light blue and brownish yellow. The caudal fin is yellowish grey, with a slightly more yellow color at the center-posterior region.
