This fish does not have a bump on the dorsal profile of the head and chin. Its pseudo-caudal fin (clavus) is undulating, held up by 10–13 fin rays, among which 8 or 9 have ossicles. These ossicles are noticeably spaced apart and narrower than the gaps between them. Regarding coloration, it is grey to dark grey on the dorsal side, while the flanks exhibit a grey-brown or brownish-green tone with silvery reflections, appearing dark below. Occasionally, small light spots may be present on the sides.
