Thallus are thick, highly calcified crusts that are firmly affixed to the substratum. They have age-forming heads that are 4–8 cm in diameter and are covered in short knobs that are 3–5 mm high and 1.5–3 mm in diameter. Simple knobs with obtuse tops that are occasionally split or anastomosing. Cells measuring 12–20?m long and 7–10?m broad are seen in the knob’s longitudinal segment. Vibrant red or light pink in color. Abundance: Found growing in semi-sheltered and open locations on stones, boulders, dead coral, and seashells in the low intertidal and subtidal zones.
