Description:
Linuche unguiculata is radial symmetry. Eight gonads are paired in four gastric pouches, extending into 16 peripheral stomach pouches that lead to 16 blunt, oval marginal lappets. These lappets house eight tentacles and eight rhopaliums. The tentacles are relatively short and inconspicuous, no marginal ring canal is present. The medusa features a single mouth on the underside’s central region. In its polyp form, this species can be either colonial or solitary, featuring hard, chitinous tubes that resemble hydra-like stalks. Colonial forms can reach heights of up to 150 mm. The medusa’s surface hosts symbiotic zooxanthellae, contributing to its brownish coloration. Beneath the zooxanthellae, the outer coating is transparent, while the inner surface exhibits white coloration with green and brown spots.
