Description:
Large, long-billed shorebird, almost godwit-sized, extremely rare, found in open marshes and coastal mudflats. Adult that has been heavily marked in brick-red below, and dark and highly marked in brick-red above. Adult grayish brown that is not reproducing, with a duller, browner bill. Adolescent, dark above with wide gold feather borders, light below with warm buff or gold tones, clean dark stipples, and chevron-shaped markings. Asians have blackish legs, while Long-billed Dowitchers have yellow-green legs. The adult Asian’s bill is blackish or brownish, unlike the godwit’s bicolored bill; the juvenile Asian’s bill has a pale base.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Its local range includes south and south east coasts of the country. It is mostly restricted to Sonadia and Nijhum Dweep coasts.
