Description:
The body of this fish is generally smooth, except for well-developed spinules on the belly extending from the chin to the anus. It features 13–16 pectoral fin rays, and its caudal fin is lunate, with the lower lobe longer than the upper in adults. The coloration of adults is dark green, brownish-grey, or blue above, and white below. Juveniles exhibit approximately 9 bars on the back, extending from the eye to the dorsal fin, with dark spots on the front and middle of the belly and on the side near the pectoral base in specimens less than 33 cm. The pectoral fins are dark, except for the lower 1/3, which is white.
