Description:
The maxilla extends to below the anterior edge of the eye when the mouth is fully closed, and the soft portion of the dorsal fin is not higher than the spiny portion. There are 51–55 (typically 52–53) pored lateral line scales, with 11–14 (usually 12–13) scale rows above the lateral line and 18–21 (usually 18–19) scale rows below the lateral line. The coloration is silvery grey with narrow brassy stripes along the upper and lower edges of the body scales. Two oblique brassy bands are present on the snout and cheeks, and the opercular membrane is usually yellowish brown.
