Description:
The body is spindle-shaped, elongated and rounded.Teeth are small and conical that are arranged in a single row. The two dorsal fins are closely spaced with only a narrow gap between them. There are two flaps between the pelvic fins. The coloration includes a dark purplish-blue back, while the lower sides and belly are silvery. There are 4–6 prominent longitudinal dark bands which in live specimens may present as intermittent lines of dark blotches.
