Colonies manifest as encrusting plates or substantial ridges, columns or branches. The orientation of branches is typically erect, although they may adopt a horizontal or irregular form based on the impact of wave action. Axial corallites are typically absent. Corallites exhibit a smooth, rounded and protruding structure. The coenosteum is comprised of delicate spinules with elaborately fashioned tips. The coloration tends to be a pale cream or brown.
