English Name: Not Known
Local/Bangla Name: Not Known
Marine Tunicate
Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Thaliacea
Order: Salpida
Family: Salpidae
Description:
The creature has an elongated, nearly streamlined cylindrical body, rounded in the front and squarely cut off at the rear. Its thick, smooth test lacks attachment organs or projections at either end. Some specimens exhibit oral musculature protruding from the anterior end of the test. Nine body muscles extend ventrally and appear to be distinct. Certain muscle bands split into two lateral branches. The first four muscle bands converge and fuse along the mid-dorsal line before separating again at the ventral end. The remaining muscle bands are evenly spaced and run parallel from dorsal to ventral. A small spherical gut mass is located at the posterior end, with the endostyle expanding dorsally behind the oral musculature towards the nucleus. The dorsal tubercle is elongated near the front. The branchial septum is long, slender, and coils up into the nucleus, resulting in a compact body structure.
