Description:
The thick, vivid red bill is easily recognizable; most have a tiny, dark patch close to the tip. During summer, see the uniform black cap that changes to black streaks in winter. The upperparts of juveniles are marked in a V-shaped pattern. Searches for fish by sailing over lakes, rivers, estuaries, and reservoirs before diving in to capture them. More gull-like in their smooth wingbeats than small-bodied terns in their turbulent flight. incredibly loud and boisterous, yells loudly. In particular, contrast with the Royal Tern, which has a thinner, more orange-colored bill and is a little smaller and more slender.
