The cells, seen from the valve, are broadly elliptical in shape and can be found in chains, either straight or curved, of various lengths. The pervalvar axis is somewhat elongated. Valves have a slightly convex surface and an elliptical outline, with a high valve mantle that lacks a groove at the base. Processes on the valves are slender but robust, each terminating with a strong claw. The cell wall is more heavily siliceous and exhibits areolated-punctated characteristics, with radially arranged areolae. On the mantle surface, these areolae are positioned pervalvar. These rows of areolae exhibit an eccentric arrangement, with the center of areolation not coinciding with the center of the valve but rather situated on one of the mantle surfaces.
