The holdfast takes on a shape ranging from oval to disc-shaped. The primary branches are 1-3 centimeters wide and display abundant and irregular branching. Most of the branching occurs near the margins, with small to medium-sized teeth often found on these branches, and sharp protuberances are common on the surface of the thallus. The ultimate branches are thick and strap-shaped, without a narrowing near the base. The subcortex consists of 4-6 layers of star-shaped cells, with numerous secondary pit connections. The cortex has a pseudo-parenchymatous structure. The inner cortical cells are either oval or somewhat round, while the outermost cells are elongated and shaped like “rabbit ears.” These plants exhibit a color spectrum ranging from dark pink to deep red.
