Growing on undercuts, thallus originating from a single holdfast can be either upright or hanging, sparingly dichotomously or trichotomously branched, and including up to ten unbranched segments in a series. Mostly in a single plane, the basal segments are terete to flattened and sporadically trilobed; the others are discoid, reniform to trilobed, primarily ribbed, and frequently have the same size and shape all the way around the thallus. Utricles in three or four layers; the inner and secondary utricles are cylindrical, essentially homogeneous, and if at all constricted, only very slightly so. Thallus, up to a height of 18 cm. Green grass that dries to a light olive green or white.
