The rounded disc is slightly wider than long, and the body is more flattened compared to Halieutaea coccinea. The dorsal surface is adorned with low and small tubercles, each having 3–4 facets, while the interspaces are naked. The ventral surface is typically naked or, at most, has a few scattered small tubercles on the belly. There are 6 pairs of slightly enlarged, equal-sized tubercles on the lateral side of the caudal peduncle.In terms of coloration, the body is reddish to brownish when fresh, with few spots or short vermiculates on the dorsal surface. The ventral surface appears red, and the eyes are circled by a thin black line. There are broad black bands on the pectoral fin.
