Description:
The fish has an oval, moderately deep, and somewhat compressed body, with a depth 1.9 to 2.2 times in SL. The mouth points forward when protracted, and there are distinct caniniform teeth in both jaws. The head is scaleless, and scales on the body are absent anterior to a line from the origin of the soft dorsal fin to behind the pectoral-fin base, and thence on towards the tip of the depressed pelvic fins. It has a single dorsal fin with VIII and 16 soft rays, an anal fin with III spines and 14 soft rays, and a forked caudal fin. The body is silvery, with a greyish to bluish back and dark yellow irregular marks extending to a little below the lateral line. There are black dots all over the ventral half of the body and head.
