Description:
They resemble Fistularia commersonii, but they have a line of elongated bony plates that embedded in the skin along the midline of the back in front of the dorsal fin. The posterior lateral line ossifications terminate in a sharp spine. In terms of coloration, the background color is red to orange-brown above and silvery below with the vertical fins also exhibiting an orange tint.
