The carapace of the crab is thick, almost square in shape.The surface of the carapace is covered with tufts of setae (hairs) in the front, and with granules in the back. The frontal margin (front edge) of the carapace is deflected downwards. and is slightly concave in the middle and laterally.The postfrontal ridge has 4 lobes, with the median pair having a deeper and smooth groove.
