This fish species has a body depth measuring 2.7–3.2 times the standard length (SL) for specimens ranging from 10 to 27 cm SL. The preopercle is angular, featuring 2–4 distinctly enlarged serrae at the angle. In adults, the lower edge of the maxilla exhibits a step-like bend. The pectoral fins have 16–18 rays, and the caudal fin is rounded. Lateral body scales are rough, and there are no auxiliary scales. The overall coloration includes a pale brown dorsal region, transitioning to whitish or pale pink ventrally. Notably, there are faint dark brown stripes: one extending from the eye to the end of the operculum, another darker stripe from the lower edge of the eye to the subopercle, and a third from the edge of the preorbital to the interopercle. The pectoral fins appear hyaline greyish-yellow.
