The carapace has an approximate oval form, is somewhat flattened, and is usually between 3-5 cm wide. Although it may have faint ridges or granulations, it is usually smooth. Typically, the carapace and appendages have a dull brown or grayish appearance. The carapace’s anterolateral borders are furnished with tiny, uniformly spaced spines or teeth. The chelae are modest and uniform in size, and the claws are comparatively short and not very strong. It is easier to go down the seafloor because the first three pairs of walking legs are long and slender. The eyes have a broad field of vision and are situated in front of the carapace on short stalks.
