The valves take on an elliptic to oval shape with broad, rounded apices. Longitudinal canals, which are narrow and have a width equivalent to one to three areolae, run along the margin of the axial and central areas. The axial area is nearly entirely filled by a wide raphe. The central area is sizable and has an orbicular shape. The striae, which are the fine lines or furrows on the valve, are uniseriate and radiate throughout the valve surface. The areolae are relatively large and blocky, numbering between 16-20 in a 10 µm span.
