The posterior margin of the upper jaw is straight or slightly concave and the opercular membrane lacks serrations. The tip of the upper jaw is not hooked. The curved part of the lateral line is covered by 54–62 cycloid scales, while the straight part has 0–8 scales and 28–33 relatively large scutes. The coloration is bluish pale black above and silvery white below. There is a small black blotch on the margin of the opercle near the upper edge. The margins of both the dorsal and pectoral fins as well as the dorsal finlet are red. The anal, pelvic fins and ventral finlet are pale white.
