Lateral ridge present. First and second dorsal fins small and rounded, with straight or arched margins, well separated, and of similar sizes. First dorsal fin origin over or just behind pelvic fin insertions. Pre-dorsal and interdorsal ridges prominent. Interdorsal space fairly long. Juveniles without prominent black edges to saddles.
Colors: Numerous dark brown or blackish spots, dashes and bars on light brown background present in juveniles and adults; saddle-markings or bars of young without prominent black edging.
