The fish exhibit a distinctive morphology, featuring a large head and a slender body. The maxilla extends beyond the posterior margin of the eyes, and a clear notch is observed on the premaxilla. The chin lacks scales and is marked with melanophores. On the dorsal surface of the head, there are seven to eight pairs of parallel longitudinal papillae situated between bony ridges, extending from the snout to the interorbital space. Sensory papillae form vertical rows between horizontal lateral lines, not closely surrounded by scales. The breast is fully covered with scales, and a triangular scale patch is present between the pectoral and pelvic fin bases, extending posteriorly along the sides as a thin line. The belly is scaled from the anterior region to the anus. Teeth are found on the premaxillae, dentaries, and vomer. The upper jaw has two distinct rows of depressible teeth, with the inner row slightly longer than the outer row, while the lower jaw has three rows of teeth.
