The cells are arranged in straight chains, and the two ends of the chains are dissimilar. The apertures are very small and located centrally. Setae emerge close to the valve’s center and initially run almost parallel to the chain’s axis, then they have an elbow-like turn at right angles, and there is a distinct tooth on the lower setae. These setae are covered in spines. Numerous chromatophores are present within the cells. The width of these organisms typically falls within the range of 25-30 µm.
