This fish species is characterized by having a body depth greater than or subequal to the head length, measuring 2.3–2.8 times the standard length (SL). The pectoral fins are subequal to the pelvic fins and have 18–20 rays. The lateral line consists of 66–80 scales, and there are 115–134 scales in the lateral scale series.
The fish exhibit an orange-red to reddish-brown body, often with scattered small whitish or purple spots. There is a purple network pattern on the head, maxilla, and lips. The pectoral fins are orange distally, and the membranes of the soft dorsal, caudal, anal, and pelvic fins are dusky, with dorsal fin rays being orange distally.
