The thalli are flat and spread out on the substrate, sometimes even overlapping to create a mat-like appearance. They attach to the surface using clusters of rhizoids that grow at the nodes, near the polysiphonous axis. The branching pattern is dichotomous, with constrictions at each node, and the internodes have a central midrib. When the blades mature, they become linear to narrowly elliptical in shape. Additional branches, known as adventitious branches, develop from cells on the margins near where the blades split, while there are no branches that originate from within the thallus. These plants have a color that can range from pink to pale brown and they are epiphytic in nature.
