The spines of the dorsal fin are short, almost equal in length to the soft rays of the dorsal fin. Dorsal fin membrane is moderately incised. The dorsal fin consists of 13 spines and 10–11 soft rays. Anal fin has 3 spines and 5–6 soft rays. Typically, there are 16 rays in the pectoral fin. Posterior lacrimal spine is generally oriented downward. It is reddish with five dark bars on its body; a blackish blotch on the opercle; black membranes on the pectoral fins and orange-red to brownish spots on the soft dorsal, anal, caudal and pelvic fins.
