Description:
Males exhibit a body pattern with 6-7 dusky bands, each featuring 1 or a pair of dark-margined, pale, oblong spots. Dark spots are observed on the spinous dorsal, while the rayed dorsal shows dusky lines. In contrast, females have spots on the caudal peduncle. Body is naked and males have a fleshy blade-like crest on the top of their heads. There are apparent segmented pelvic-fin rays numbering 3. Nape cirri may be present or absent. Canine teeth are found posteriorly on the dentary and there are no teeth on the vomer.
