Astropecten indicus typically exhibits a star-like shape, with five equally sized arms that narrow towards their tips. They are whitish-gray in color, with the upper surface being slightly darker. When preserved and dried, the specimens appear whitish. The madreporite is small and located closer to the interradial margin. The number of both the inferomarginal and superomarginal plates varies from 23 to 27, decreasing in size as they extend toward the tips of the arms. All the superomarginal plates have small spines along their upper edges, while the inferomarginal plates bear numerous tiny spines. Each adambulacral plate has a prominent central spine.
