The anal fin has 47–53 rays, and the snout profile is straight to convex. In juveniles, there is a rudimentary pelvic spine that is plate-like, disappearing in larger specimens. The coloration is uniform, ranging from light grey to sandy, with darker blotches and spots. The fins are yellowish, with the caudal fin being more dusky.
