Description:
The fish has a moderately deep and compressed body, with a dorsal fin featuring 2 well-separated anterior spines and 45–53 dorsal rays. The anal fin has 47–53 rays, and the snout profile is straight to convex. In juveniles, there is a rudimentary pelvic spine that is plate-like, disappearing in larger specimens. The coloration is uniform, ranging from light grey to sandy, with darker blotches and spots. The fins are yellowish, with the caudal fin being more dusky.
