The snout is round and blunt. The straight portion of the lateral line is entirely covered by thickened scales, and the interradial membrane of the dorsal fin ranges from hard-radiated hyaline to dark. It features a diffuse dusky blotch, not bordered above by a white spot on the margin of the gill cover. The dorsal, anal and caudal fins are dusky yellow, often with white tips on the anterior rays of the second dorsal and anal fins. Dark tips are frequently present on the lobes of the caudal fin and the pelvic fins are white. The supramaxilla is relatively small and lacks an anterior spine-like extension.
