The colonies are composed of flat, strongly fused basal branches with uneven, upright branchlets. These corals frequently take on a tiered plate-like structure. Occasionally, the entire colony appears as one continuous solid plate, and in some cases, upward branchlets are absent. The axial corallites closely resemble the radial corallites. The radial corallites have wide apertures and substantial rims. The coloration can range from brown, cream, to green.
