Description:
The body has a moderate depth, measuring 1.9–2.2 times the standard length (SL), and the caudal spine is 4.4–5.7 times the head length (HL). The dorsal profile of the head is convex, and the caudal fin is deeply emarginate to lunate. In terms of color, the body appears purplish grey when alive and turns greyish brown when preserved. There is a dull yellow region in front of the eye, extending to a lesser degree behind the lower part of the eye. The dorsal and anal fins are brownish yellow with four longitudinal blue bands and a blue-grey band at the base. There is also a whitish band across the base of the caudal peduncle, and the outer third of the pectoral fins is yellow. Additionally, there is a broad blue area around the caudal spine.
