Sepia pharaonis are characterized by their conspicuous transverse stripes on the dorsal side of the head, mantle, and arms. Their tentacular clubs have 8 suckers in transverse rows, with the median sucker enlarged. The hectocotylized left arm IV has 12 rows of normal suckers, followed by 10 rows with minute suckers in the dorsal two rows and normal suckers in the two ventral rows. The inner cone of the cuttlebone is wide and flattened with an oval prominence in the center.
