Classification:
Kingdom: Chromista
Phylum: Bacillariophyta
Class: Bacillariophyceae
Order: Rhizosoleniales
Family: Rhizosoleniaceae
Description:
The cells have a cylindrical shape, with diameters ranging from 6 to 30 µm, and they consistently exhibit a curvature along the pervalvar axis. They are connected in curved chains, often forming spiral arrangements. The valves are flat and feature rounded edges. A distinct spine runs along the valve margin, fitting into a depression on the adjacent cell. Collar-like intercalary bands are abundant. The presence of imbrication lines may not always be obvious, but they are occasionally quite distinct. The cell wall is weakly siliceous and does not have observable structure. Inside the cells, numerous small, oval chromatophores are present, with the nucleus located near the cell wall.
