Description:
These cells have an elongated, slightly curved shape with a circular cross-section. When viewed from the side, the valves of these cells extend into a protrusion with a rounded end. These cells can form short chains where the protrusion of one valve fits into a depression on the valve of the neighboring cell. The girdle bands are arranged in two columns and have pores and small chambers. These cells also contain numerous small chloroplasts.
