- Not Known - Chaetoceros curvisetus - Type: Phytoplankton

Classification:
Kingdom: Chromista
Phylum: Bacillariophyta
Class: Bacillariophyceae
Order: Chaetocerotanae incertae sedis
Family: Chaetocerotaceae
Description:
Chains are coiled in a spiral, and the lower part of the setae is unclear or sometimes missing. The setae extend outward from the spiral arrangement, representing a resting spore.Colonies are curved and relatively long. The cells appear rectangular in side view, with a low mantle. The foramina, which are openings, are wide and elliptical. Both intercalary and terminal setae are alike. They are long and slender, with a short basal segment. Setae overlap at the colony’s edge, curving in the same direction, almost perpendicular to the colony’s axis. Each cell has a single chloroplast. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) reveals a concave, elliptical valve with distinct radiating costate patterns. The rimoportula is a centrally located tube-like structure. Setae are circular in cross-section, punctuated by small pores, and feature spiral rows of spines.Resting spores have spines, with a broadly convex primary valve and an almost flat secondary valve.
