Description:
Each cell contains a single chromatophore, pressed against one of the valves. The setae are mostly straight and positioned relatively close to the apical plane of the cell. In a broad girdle view, the terminal setae diverge at an angle of about 90° or even more. The cells typically have a width ranging from 8 to 17 µm. Resting spores can be either smooth or have fine spicules.
