The colonies are typically microscopic, consisting of usually 2-8 cells, though occasionally there may be up to 32 cells, and very rarely, they might exist as solitary cells. The outermost layer of sheath forms the colony’s margin, which is typically well-defined. The individual cells in these colonies are spherical, subspherical, ovoid, or hemispherical following division. Sheath layers are quite discernible and typically form with each cell division, although occasionally they may exhibit multiple lamellations. These sheaths are colorless in appearance.
