Notobrachaeidae, a group of marine organisms, may not be exceptionally strong swimmers, but they have adapted for locomotion through the modification of their foot into wing-like structures known as parapodia. These parapodia serve as the primary means of movement for these organisms.
In a similar manner to other Pteropods belonging to the order Gymnosomata, adult Notobrachaeidae completely lack shells. However, during their earlier life stages, they do possess shells, which they eventually lose as they mature.
One of the defining features of Notobrachaeidae is the presence of a posterior gill, which helps them with respiration. They also possess strong jaws and grasping tentacles, with these tentacles frequently bearing suckers resembling those found on cephalopods. Additionally, they typically have buccal cones, which are specialized structures related to their feeding habits. These combined features set Notobrachaeidae apart as a distinct group of marine organisms with a unique set of characteristics.
